Greg Thompson

Chief Operating Officer

A defense technology & medical device expert, Greg’s background made him a uniquely critical member of the GeneCapture team at a pivotal point in their development.

Armed with an engineering degree from North Dakota State University - the first University in the nation with a degree in computer engineering - Greg went to Honeywell in Phoenix, where he began his career in avionics, designing cockpits for the A320, 777, and the 757 aircrafts. Greg would take this experience to Sanmina Corporation in Huntsville, then known as Spacecraft Incorporated, designing and engineering products for the Star Wars Program, supporting America’s missile defense needs.

Within Sanmina, Greg rose to become Vice President of Product Design, leading all product lines across the world – which introduced him to the medical device industry. There, Greg led a team that brought nearly 200 medical devices to the market.

Upon his retirement from Sanmina, Greg mentored the GeneCapture team, leveraging his decades of experience bringing advanced medical devices to the market, and understanding the needs of the Department of Defense. He saw the benefits of a consumable medical product that did not require a cold chain to be very useful in remote environments.

Today, Greg serves as Chief Operating Officer with a focus on building an outstanding engineering team to provide the mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineering for a low cost consumable and instrument that will meet FDA’s required quality control standards and systems.

After a decades-long career designing and engineering medical devices, airplane cockpits, and countless other products with advanced engineering needs, Greg Thompson found that the GeneCapture challenge was one of the most unique applications of all: the opportunity to develop a robust platform technology that could diagnose and detect pathogenic threats, with no cold chain or laboratory requirements.
