Peggy Sammon

Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer

A serial entrepreneur, an advocate for health equality, and a visionary leader in Huntsville - Peggy Sammon co-founded GeneCapture and set up shop at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology with a promise in mind: to bring infection detection to the point of care – where the patient can best benefit from rapid actionable data.

Peggy’s Story: When Peggy heard from a scientist friend about a new invention, she met  the inventor, Dr. Krishnan Chittur, and learned about his RNA signature match technology.   Peggy could visualize the immense impact of the technology and offered her support in developing the company’s first business plan.  After winning the state-wide business plan competition, Peggy and Krishnan got to work assembling the team and validating the tech.

Peggy is one of 10 children who grew up in Canada, including working on a family farm in Quebec every summer.  After moving to the U.S. in high school she graduated from a Bucknell University and started her entrepreneurial career. Her interest in business started on the farm, and led to an entrepreneurial career with a high tech environmental company, then a wireless technology platform and several non-profits along the way, including a one-year family field trip to Australia which resulted in a strong network to the Aussie entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The GeneCapture opportunity checked all the boxes – very novel tech, big impact, low cost consumable, and a way to support distributed health care.
